Father, son found dead in Virginia home ruled homicide

No murder weapon has been found and there were no signs of forced entry, according to detectives. The home is newly built in small subdivision on large plots of land near U.S route 29. Two doors down, a new home is going up. Neighbors we talked to did not know the Nguyens.

But someone wanted the Mr. Nguyen and his son dead and detectives are trying to figure out who.

"This doesn't appear to be random," said Capt. James Hartman with the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office.

Virginia Family Terrified After Mysterious Double Homicide

“My brother, he’s still really young,” Virginia said. “He’s very naïve and gullible. He’s at that age where you just want to have fun.”

She and her mother were visiting a sick relative in Vietnam when Duong and America were killed. While the women were away, the family spoke every day.

“My dad would always ask me and my mom, ‘Do you miss me, do you love me?’” Virginia said. “And he was like, ‘I miss you so much and I love you.’”

But one day, neither man answered his phone. After a second day passed, the sheriff’s office checked the family’s Bealeton home Nov. 9 and found the two men shot to death.

The family had lived in the newly built home for only a year. They’d chosen it because Duong loved the big yard and the safety of tiny Bealeton.

Cold Case: FBI investigates mysterious death of Fauquier County father and son

“They didn’t seem to have any specific enemies or anybody that they’ve been arguing with or concerned at this point. We have not been able to determine why these two people were chosen,” said Detective Candyce Shaw.

Although the shooter and the motive remains a mystery. There’s one piece of evidence that investigators say is unquestionable.

“The route 28 corridor south of here is where the Nguyen house is located and then north is Route 28 north it goes into Prince William County and Manassas,” Sgt. Hartman said. “We have strong reason to believe that whoever is responsible for this crime traveled this corridor Route 28 from the Nguyen residence to the Prince William County, Nokesville, Manassas area.”

The Fauquier County Sheriff’s office wants to hear from anyone who may have traveled Route 28 between November 7 and November 8. The FBI is offering a $20,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest.

Bealeton murder victims described as quiet, “nice”

Sheriff’s deputies discovered the bodies of both men in their year-old house at 11027 Salisbury Lane on Friday morning. They died of gunshot wounds “to the upper torso,” Sgt. Hartman said. He declined to provide other details.

But, “we don’t believe that this was a random attack,” Sgt. Hartman said.

After friends expressed concern that the younger man had not contacted them or posted on social media in a couple of days, deputies went to the home to conduct a “welfare check” and entered through an unlocked door, according to the sergeant.

In March 1981, someone shot and killed Robin Brooks and Joan Kenny in a house they shared on Belvoir Farm east of Marshall, where both of the victims worked. Those murders remain unsolved.

Father, Son Found Dead in Virginia Home

A man found shot to death along with his son in their Virginia home Friday is described by friends as an immigrant success story who loved the country so much he named his son America.

“I couldn't see anybody ever having ill will toward Duong or America,” said his friend, Phil Shremshock.

There was no sign of forced entry at the home.

“That's scary,” a neighbor said. “That's definitely scary, because then you wonder were they targeted or was this something like a robbery. Do we have anything in this neighborhood to worry about?”

FBI offers $20,000 reward in Fauquier murders

Both men died of gunshot wounds “to the torso,” Sheriff Robert Mosier said.

But, law enforcement authorities refused to provide more information about the “cold case” murders during an 18-minute press conference at the sheriff’s office in Warrenton.

They have yet to reveal whether the same gun killed both victims, whether they fought the killer(s) or where deputies found the bodies. The killings took place late Wednesday, Nov. 7, or early Thursday, Nov. 8, the sheriff’s office announced last year.

“We’re not able to say one way or the other whether they were targeted or whether it was random,” Sheriff Mosier said in answer to a question Tuesday afternoon.
